School-Based Mentoring
It may sound obvious, but sometimes the best to help a child realize their potential is at school. Kids enjoy having their Bigs meet with them there, whether it's in the classroom or on the playground. And parents know what a positive impact it makes.
THE PROGRAM
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yellowstone County matches elementary and middle school students in one-to-one friendships with qualified high school juniors and seniors. Matches meet during the school day at the Little's school to help them develop their full potential.
HOW IT WORKS
High school students apply to be a Big the year prior to selection. If approved, Bigs will be placed into the Mentor class and receive credits through their school. Elementary and middle school students apply to be Littles during the summer of the school year they wish to be matched. Both Bigs and Littles are interviewed to make sure our matches are good fits, and receive child safety training. Matches meet one to two times per week during the school day at the Little's school.
FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Being a Big is one of the most fulfilling things you can do. You have the opportunity to help shape a child's future by empowering them to reach their full potential. Best part -- it's so much fun! This is an elective class, held once per week in the classroom, with the rest of the week visiting your Little. You will receive graded assignments, attendance, and a final grade at the end of the semester.

FOR YOUTH AND PARENTS
By enrolling your child in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yellowstone County, you give them the chance to see their unlimited potential and develop skills that will carry them to new heights in their lives. Children in our program are in grades K-8 and are generally recommended by parents, teachers, and counselors.
